English summary: Recent studies on Japanese Zen are often based on a mythological reading of its history. Thus, historical forms that run contrary to today's understanding of Zen are marginalized. Steffen Döll dedicated himself to one of these forms, namely the early phase of Japanese Zen. In addition to the institutional and ideological development of the so-called Five Mountains (gozan), he notes in particular the translation processes that were used in adapting the Chinese Chan for the Japanese context. These processes take place in the biographies and literary works of the Chinese immigrant monk of the 13th and 14th Centuries. German text. Jahrhunderts. Read more
